LAPLACE – A burned out connection in a feeder wire along Airline Highway near U.S. 51 caused about 2,500 homes and businesses in LaPlace to go without power for a short period of time Monday afternoon, according to officials with Entergy.

Entergy Louisiana Customer Service Manager for St. James and St. John Parishes Sheila Butler said the connection shorted out around 1:45 p.m. Monday and left most of the affected customers without power for nearly an hour. She said a small number of homes and business closest to the power line were left in the dark longer while Entergy crews worked to re-route the connection and repair the line. The outage affected homes and businesses between U.S. 51 and the River Forest subdivision.

“This was just a case of a connection wearing out over time,” Butler said. “It was one of the older feeder lines.”

Butler said power was completely restored to all affected customers just after 4 p.m. Monday.
