Destrehan scored a goal in each half on Tuesday to down host St. Charles in LaPlace, 2-0.

SCC defeated Destrehan three times a season ago.

St. Charles coach Don Peyton says that in a year of transition for his team, but that he saw a lot of positives on Tuesday.

“Anytime you lose a game, you take it to heart,” said Peyton. “At the same time, they fought for the whole game, even when it was decided. And we gave them a game.”

The Comets (1-5-2) controlled the ball for stretches in the first half, but converting possession into goals became the problem.

“We shoot, shoot, shoot and don’t get it in,” said Peyton. “At the end, we really pressed the goal, but couldn’t convert. It’s an area to improve upon.”

Peyton says his team’s early struggles remind him of his time with the team a few seasons ago. That team’s core would mature and eventually become the district champion of last season.

He hopes similar improvement occurs, starting later this season.

“I see them getting better and better, in this game, in the tournament last week…hopefully, by midseason, we’ll be a pretty good team.”

SCC DROPS TWO, NOTCHES TIE AT DOMINICAN TOURNEY – The Comets tied Redemptorist 1-1 last Saturday, but fell in matches with Northlake Christian, 3-0, and St. Martin’s, 4-0.

Laura Hane scored the lone goal for SCC, tying the match in the first half on a short shot lofted over the goalies head.

“It was a pretty little shot,” said SCC assistant coach David Bordelon.

The games on Saturday against Northlake Christian and Redemptorist were played at Dominican. Last Friday’s game against St. Martin’s was played at St. Martin’s.
