During their science/ social studies blocks, Harry Hurst eighth-graders were able to take a short walk down the Mississippi River levee to meet with Destrehan Plantation Education Coordinator Angie Matherne. To prepare the students for their roles in facilitating stations for the Destrehan Plantation Heritage Day, students took an in-depth tour of the plantation focusing on day-to-day life 200 years ago. During their training, students also had time to use different tools and toys they would teach younger students about.
