Riverside’s girls soccer team was impressive in victory this week as it notched a 4-1 win over Walker-Baton Rouge Tuesday in Reserve to move to 2-0 on the young season.
Shelby Deslatte and Chelsie Cupit each scored two goals for the Rebels to lead the team.
RA led 3-0 at halftime.
“The girls played with a lot of determination,” said second year Riverside coach Stephen Millet. “Really, they’re growing up really quickly. All of the little eighth graders and ninth graders that played for us last year are understanding the game. It’s a group that’s coming together.”
Millet said that Deslatte in particular is really emerging as a go-to player for the team.
“She’s stepping up big time as a playmaker,” said Millet.
“I think she and Taylor Terrio have been two of our most impressive players in terms of controlling the action and making things happen.”
Cupit, meanwhile, has shown a nose for the ball early in the season.
“She has a knack for being in the right place at the right time,” said Millet.
“She just finds a way, and that’s something you certainly want from your forwards.”
Riverside returns to action Wednesday at home.
Play will begin at 5 p.m.
