LAPLACE — A 17-year-old Kenner teen who suffered a gunshot wound to the head during a shooting at a LaPlace nightclub earlier this month succumbed to his injuries Monday, said a spokesman for the St. John Sheriff’s Office.

Derrick “Diddy” Danieal Holiman, who was hit in the temple when shots were fired outside Club Xquisite on Airline Highway in the early morning hours of June 13, passed away around noon at East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie, said Capt. Dane Clement, public information officer for the St. John Sheriff’s Office. Clement said Holiman’s death is the second homicide of the year in St. John Parish.

Clement said detectives are still investigating the shooting, which occurred around 2 a.m. in the parking lot of the club. In addition to Holiman’s death, the gunfire sent an unidentified female victim to the hospital with a wound to the neck. Also, six vehicles parked in front of the club were riddled with bullets. Authorities have not released any more information about the shooting.

Club Xquisite, located in the 1100 block of East Airline Highway in LaPlace, bills itself as “the hottest club in Louisiana.” The nightclub was the setting for a concert that evening by an artist known as Lil Webbie. A sign on the front door said no one under the age of 21 is allowed inside the club. It is unclear how Holiman was able to gain entry, but family members said he had left the club and was listening to music in the parking lot when the shots rang out.

Clement said detectives are still investigating the shooting and no arrests have been made as of Thursday. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact St. John Sheriff’s Det. Kenny Mitchell at 985-652-9513.
