LAPLACE — Sheriff’s deputies in St. John Parish arrested three men Thursday in connection with a drive-by shooting in Garyville last month, said a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office

Two of the men involved are identical twins, who assisted the third man, their cousin, in the May 30 shooting of a 26-year-old Reserve man, Capt. Dane Clement, public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office.

The cousin, Alonzo Wilkens, 18, 1520 Grant St., LaPlace, was booked on charges of attempted second-degree murder and aggravated criminal damage to property, while the brothers, Kyron and Kylon Wilkens, 20, of 112 Historic East St., Garyville, were booked with principal to attempted second-degree murder and principal to aggravated criminal damage in connection with the incident, in which a barrage bullets struck a car. Clement said no one was injured in the shooting.

According to a report from the Sheriff’s Office, on May 30, deputies responded to a call around 10:20 p.m. about shots being fired near the 300 block of Historic East Street.

When deputies arrived, the victim said shots were fired at him while he was driving in the area. The victim went on to say that Alonzo Wilkens, Kyron Wilkens and Kylon Wilkens were the ones who fired on him.

Clement said an investigation into the shooting revealed that Alonzo Wilkens was one of two shooters in the incident. Investigators said one of the twins stood in the middle of the street to stop the car while the other brother fired shots at the victim.

Clement said after warrants were issued for all three men, Alonzo Wilkens and Kyron Wilkens were arrested Thursday evening at a Grant Street address. Kylon Wilkens surrendered to detectives at the Parish’s Criminal Investigations Bureau later that night.

All three men remain in jail at the Sherman Walker Correctional Facility in LaPlace on bonds of $500,000 each.
