Gladys Poche Martin died on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, at St. Joseph Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Harahan. Age 100, she was a native of Belmont, La., and a long time resident of Grand Point and most recently in Harahan. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart College in 1927 from Grand Coteau with a teaching degree. Survivors include her sons J. Hugh Martin and his wife Peggy of Harahan, Gaynell Martin and his wife Gail of River Ridge, brother Emile Poche and his wife Roberta of Ascension Parish, grandchildren Bob Martin, Lynda Martin, Michael Martin and Jon Martin and great-grandchildren Phillip, Erick, Michael and Gerald Martin.
Preceded in death by her parents Pierre and Marie Martin Poche, husband Milfred Martin, brothers Adolph, Clifford, Marcel and Lionel Poche and sisters Inez Brignac, Anita Waguespack, Doris Boudreaux, Hortense Martin and Edna Martin.
A special thanks to St. Joseph Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and hospice. Visitation will be Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at the Alexander Funeral Home in Lutcher. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 am on Saturday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Paulina with burial to follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery with Fr. Jason Palermo. Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home in Lutcher.
