LAPLACE – Although they didn’t take the shirt off his back, a pair of armed gunmen made off with a Reserve man’s shorts during a robbery along River Road Monday, said a spokesman for the sheriff’s department.

According to Maj. Mike Tregre, public information officer for the St. John Sheriff’s Office, the 46-year-old victim, who was not injured in the attack, told investigators he was walking westbound along LA 44 near East 21st Street around 12:30 a.m. Monday when two black males in a black Ford Crown Victoria with tinted windows offered him a ride home.

Tregre said the men continued down LA 44 for a few blocks, then pulled onto a gravel road near a Reserve furniture store. At that point, one of the men pulled out a black handgun and pointed it to the victim’s head.

The gunman then proceeded to rob the victim of his wallet, containing $40 in cash and a debit card, his cellular phone, his blue and white Adidas tennis shoes and a pair of black shorts. The suspects then fled the scene heading eastbound on LA 44 toward LaPlace. The victim said he walked to a nearby gas station and called police. Deputies conducted a search of the area for the vehicle, but were unable to locate it.

Tregre the suspects were described as black males with dark complexions wearing black t-shirts and blue jeans. One suspect had short hair and the other had longer, braided hair. The victim said one of the suspects was roughly 6 feet tall, weighing about 200 pounds, while the other was about 5 feet 8 inches tall and about 170 lbs.
