LAPLACE – A Reserve man suffered minor injuries when the mini scooter he was riding collided with a sport utility vehicle on Airline Highway Friday evening, said a spokesman for the St. John Sheriff’s Office.
Sgt. Conrad Baker of the St. John Sheriff’s Office traffic unit said 51-year-old Curtis Simpson Jr. was taken to River Parishes Hospital for treatment of a broken nose and heavy lacerations to the face as a result of the two-vehicle accident involving Simpson’s 2007 Piaggio mini scooter and a 2007 GMC Envoy. Baker said Simpson was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.
The accident happened around 6 p.m. Friday in the westbound lanes of W. Airline Highway near the intersection of Magnolia. Baker said witnesses at the scene recalled seeing Simpson swerving in and out of lanes before colliding with the Envoy. Baker said the driver of the Envoy was not injured in the accident.
Baker said Simpson was cited for careless operation of a motor vehicle and driving with a suspended license. He said Simpson may face further charges pending the results of a toxicology exam.
