Townsend Homes wraps up third seed in playoffs, knocks off Service Master 6-2

St. Charles-based Townsend Homes ensured that it would enter the American Legion Second District playoffs on the heels of a district win, downing host Service Master (John Curtis) on Monday, 6-2.
Townsend (9-7, 6-4) had already clinched the third seed in the Second District West, and was scheduled to face second seeded Hahnville yesterday (after presstime).
It would be the first game for Townsend in a double elimination tournament, which also includes No. 1 seed Valero St. Charles (Destrehan) and No. 3 seed Bell Office Machines (East Jefferson).
Nick Reine earned the win for Townsend.
Alex Marse went 2-for-4 in the game from the leadoff spot. Grant Authement and Jared Keating each went 2-for-3.
Service Master ( 3-8-1, 1-8) scored two runs in the first inning, but never crossed home plate again.
Townsend Homes scored four runs in the third, one in the fourth and one in the seventh.
Bell Office Machines 4, Fatty’s Restaurant 3; Service Master 12, Fatty’s Restaurant 2 — Riverside-based Fatty’s Restaurant couldn’t capture its first Second District win this week, falling to Bell Office Machines (East Jefferson) and Service Master on consecutive days.
On Monday, Fatty’s (6-15, 0-9) took a 1-0 first inning lead but fell behind 4-1 in the third to Bell Office Machines (5-7, 0-5).
Fatty’s never recovered, scoring once in each of the fourth and fifth innings but no more, falling 4-3.
Remi Poirrier led the team, collecting two of its five hits.
Dylan Becnel (1-2) took the loss.
Host Service Master (4-8-1, 2-8) got on a roll after the third inning on Tuesday, scoring five n the fourth, one in the fifth and three in the sixth to push a 3-0 lead up to 12-2, taking a win by the 10-run rule.
Service Master outhit Fatty’s 12-2 as well in the game.
Justin Newbauer took the loss for Fatty’s.
