LUTCHER — Lutcher had no problems finding the end zone Friday night on their way to a 49-21 victory against Class 5A team St. Amant. The Bulldogs ended the first half leading 14-0 and managed to score four touchdowns before allowing one Gator score.

Lutcher quarterback Blaine Gautier completed 15 of his 22 pass attempts for 231 yards and two touchdowns. Gautier got the ball to the right personnel as was evident in the seven touchdowns scored by seven different Bulldogs.

The first score came on an electrifying 36-yard Rashaad Webster burst into the end zone, followed by one of many Robert Zimmer extra points. Lutcher held the Gators on the following drive but fumbled the ball right back in the second quarter. The Bulldogs defense managed recover the ball one more time before the end of the quarter, putting together a drive capped off by a Davonne Lumar touchdown reception in the right corner of the end zone.

The third quarter was more of the same for the Gators as an early third quarter turnover was just about all the Bulldogs needed to completely let the wind out of St. Amant’s sails. Trailing 14-0 with about 10:00 left in the third quarter, Bulldog defensive back Jeffrealle Bartley picked off the Josh Jordan offering returning it 55 yards for the touchdown and a 21-0 Bulldog lead.

The Bulldogs made the score 28-0 after a 2 yard Rolando Melancon run before finally giving up points to St. Amant star running back Brady Miles. Miles finished with 105 yards on 14 carries and one touchdown. Lutcher tacked on another third quarter touchdown to seal the victory.

St. Amant quarterbacks Josh Jordan and Chris Marrero split time for the Gators combining on eight of 25 attempts with one touchdown and one interception.

The Bulldogs face Thibodeaux in an away game Friday at 7 p.m.
