It was an exciting experience according to a pair of local youths at the 2006 Grambling Tiger Football camp.
Ricky MaGee Jr. and Roderick Morris Jr. were on hand among hundreds of high school football players, teens and youth at the Melvin Spears’ Tiger Football Camp this Summer.
The camp was held at Eddie Robinson Football Stadium on Grambling State University Camp in Grambling, Louisiana with GSU Coach Melvin Spears, Head Coach and Football staff.
MaGee and Morris traveled with their parents, all graduates of Grambling, Ricky Sr. and Renee’ MaGee along with Roderick L. Morris to GSU.
The youths lived as college students for a week. They lived in the dormitories, ate in the cafeteria, lifted weights in the training room and played football in the stadium.
Competing in the Pro shuttle, 40 yard dash, broad jump, vertical jump, weight lifting and football skills for one week, Ricky MaGee Jr. of St. Augustine school as an eighth grade student, won the MVP and first-place awards in his age group. Roderick Morris Jr., a fifth grader at Providence Academy, reportedly excelled in his age group as well.
