For many, the Summer doesn’t officially feel underway until swim season starts. For the pool at Riverlands Country Club, that starts this week.
With Carla Lambert at coach, and Mary Comiskey at assistant, the Stingray swim team is looking to get things off on the right foot when they host Sun Villa this Thursday for their first scheduled meet. Last season, Riverlands came in second to Larayo in the battle of local swim teams with first place finishes in the meet by Maryn Guidry, Eric Anderson and Ross Brignac. Guidry is one of the returning members this season with the Stingray’s, whose schedule has them hosting Belle Terre and Larayo within a week of each other late this month. The season culminates with the River Parishes Invitational in July at Larayo.
Lambert said the Riverlands team is young, with 44 kids under the age of 10 enrolled so far, but well-balanced in the age groups and racing events.
“The young ones should be around for awhile,” she said, “so they’re getting the experience. That’ll help us down the road. We placed second in the league last year. We’ve got a pretty well-balanced team this Summer. Both in events and age groupings.”
