Riverside, St. Charles send six to state in track and field

Five Riverside athletes and one from St. Charles qualified for the state track meet in their respective events at the Regionals meet held in Sumner. The Class 2A state meet is scheduled May 9 and 10 in Monroe.

Riverside all-around athlete Lee Haydel made an impressive showing with a first place finish in the 200 meter dash and a third in the 100 meters behind speed demons Joe McKnight of Curtis and Luther Ambrose of St. James.

Also for the Rebels boys squad, Jesse LeBlanc made it to the State round with a third place finish in the 3,200 meters.

For the 2A girls, Maurie Laiche led her team with a first place in the 200 meters while Marci Millet took second in the discus and Taneshia Patterson went third in the shot put. Reyna Lubin of St. Charles qualified with a third in the 400 meters.
