With the release of the wildcard teams and small school brackets this week, St. John the Baptist Parish baseball fans have a reason to celebrate.

As Riverside and St. Charles have been reunited in district 10-2A, and with both fielding baseball teams with enough talent to bring home a state title, the brackets have fallen so that if the two teams do meet, it’ll be for all the marbles.

SCC looks to have the clearest path in the first round as they enter the playoffs as district champions and will face wildcard Sumner from district 9-2A. Riverside has a bit stiffer competition as district runners-up facing the number two team in 8-2A, Episcopal. Neither of the two local schools have played either of these teams this season, so it should be a refreshing change of pace for the squads once they do their homework and scouting of their opponents. Those game times will be released this week.

The playoffs begin next week with the bi-district round and will culminate in the finals set for May 9 & 10 at the University of Louisiana in Monroe.

Hahnville and Destrehan have also qualified for the post-season in baseball. Those brackets are set for release later this week and the state finals are scheduled for May 12 & 13 on Moore Field at the University of Louisiana in Lafayette.
