West St. John managed to get into the softball playoffs as a wildcard team, but found the going tough in the first round where they met Ridgewood Monday and lasted only two and a half innings before play was called due to the mercy rule.
After sending up 20 batters in the bottom half of the first inning of play, and scoring 16 points on the Lady Rams, the Lady Eagles went to defense to shut WSJ out for two more innings and the 16-0 win.
Porsha Pratt opened from the mound for the Lady Rams and went to 10-7 on the season, the same as her team. The game was played at the JPRD softball complex in Edgard.
With the win, Ridgewood advances to the regional round where they will face the winner of the Christian Life/Ascension Catholic match-up, scheduled to be played today.
The softball finals are set to be finished up next week on April 28 & 29. The final two rounds of play are set to take place at Frasch Park in Sulpher.
