Local 5A, 2A baseball ahead of the curve

With St. Charles and Riverside dominating in Class 2A, and Hahnville and Destrehan going one and two in the 5A standings, the River Parishes look to have a lot of baseball and softball left to be played this season even though there’s only little more than a week left in the regular season.
The softball playoffs get started this week with the bi-district round of play. St. Charles, Destrehan and Hahnville have all qualified for a home game to be played Monday or Tuesday. East St. John also reached the first round where they will travel to play Higgins on Tuesday.
The baseball scene here has been a hotbed here, with St. Charles (10-0 in district) and Lutcher (2-0) already capturing their districts. Hahnville (7-0) looks to have one wrapped up, and West St. John (4-4) is vying for a wildcard spot. As for Riverside (8-2) and Destrehan (4-2), they have secured at least a district runner-up seed. The brackets and seedings will be announced next Friday and the finals are set for May 12 & 13 at Zephyr Field in Metairie.
The Comets season record, 20-5, is the best among all 2A teams. On offense, Chris Waguespack and Jared Nowell have been a constant threat, each reaching 35 hits this season. They are joined by Kyle Olasin and Casey Robottom, each with 30. Hot on their heels in Class 2A, Riverside (19-4) has an arsenal of their own with Lee Haydel, Cavin Richmond, Wade Delaneuville, Jordan
