DESTREHAN — A pair of top Class 5A softball teams clashed Thursday when East St. John (13-6) traveled to Destrehan to face their fellow Lady Wildcats (11-7), and DHS narrowly squeaked by ESJ 4-3.
With the score tied up at zero apiece through three innings of play, East St. John struck first when they scored a run in the fourth inning. But DHS’s Desiree Harvey led her team on offense getting a pair of hits, and helped to open up a three rn inning in the bottom of the fourth.
East St. John tightened it right back up in the top of the fifth with a tying run, but Destrehan added one more of their own in the bottom half to retake the lead and the eventual win.
Chantelle Simoneaux recorded the win for DHS from the mound, and goes to 3-1 on the season.
A rematch is scheduled for these two in two weeks at ESJ.
