SPRINGFIELD — The Comets traveled to play Springfield for the first round the post-season last Friday, and used a 28-12 fourth quarter run to end the Bulldogs season with a 56-36 final score.
Led by Michael Troglen’s 24 points on offense, SCC started off slowly by scoring just six points in the opening period. Luckily, the St. Charles defense held Springfield in check until the baskets started falling and the Comets took a seven point lead into halftime.
The Bulldogs threatened to make it a game in the third, shortening the lead to four, but SCC put together a fourth quarter that blew the game open in favor of the Comets.
Contributors on offense include John Bonura, who got 11 points, and Michael Olasin, who added 10.
The win advances St. Charles into the regionals round of the playoffs, where they will play host to district co-champion Donaldsonville. The Tigers are 16-10 on the season after overcoming an early deficit in their bi-district match-up with St. Helena.
