HAHNVILLE – A 60-47 win for the Hahnville girl’s basketball squad Monday night over Dominican, coupled with a Destrehan upset over Covington, advanced the Lady Tigers to the next round where they will face DHS’s Lady Wildcats.
Monday night, Hahnville played host to Dominican and jumped out in front with a sizeable lead after giving up only five points in the first quarter. Through the second period the Dominican squad often found it hard to get the ball up-court because of the pressing defense that HHS was applying, and the Lady Tigers went into the break ahead __-__.
Dominican made a push in the second half, cutting the lead to eight points with three and a half minutes to go, but the Hahnville offense, which was led by __ Hill’s 21 points, stayed effective and made the clutch free throws.
“We did a good job with pressure defense tonight, said Hahnville coach Kevin Robicheaux after the game. “Defense is a key to this gameŠ and we got that done.”
Destrehan’s girls squad, being the higher-seeded team, will host the Lady Tigers after taking a 78-54 win over Covington Monday night. The match-up will pit the only two 5A teams still in it for the River Parishes.
“We just gotta take it one game at a time,” said Robicheaux of post-season play and his next match-up. “The winner of that one’ll make it to the sweet sixteen tournament. Everybody’s just going to have to wait for the game to see.”
