Hahnville basketball provided some excitement to a Marrero crowd last week when both the boys and the girls Tiger teams used second half rallies to defeat John Ehret by the narrowest of margins.

In the girls game, the Lady Tigers broke a dead heat with a 19 point second quarter to go into halftime ahead by four. The Hahnville defense surrendered 23 points in the third, which put them at a six point disadvantage going into the fourth quarter, but that same defense shackled Ehret’s offense in the last eight minutes of play. While giving up only six points, the Lady Tiger offense closed the gap and took a 58-57 win.

Kyla Thomas led HHS in the effort with 4 points. Nadia Cox contributed 12 more.

The win puts the Lady Tigers at 16-15 on the season, 4-4 in district. They trail Destrehan in 5-5A by two games for the title of runner-up.

The boys match saw Hahnville fall behind by 11 points by the half, but the Tigers used an 18-6 run in the third period to take a one point lead lead into the fourth. The teams deadlocked in the fourth period leaving HHS with a 54-53 win.

Ravon Singleton led the Tigers in the effort with 14 while Reginald Lumar and Irvin Humphrey got 10.

The Hahnville boys remain undefeated in district play at 7-0 and go to 24-6 on the season.

Ehret’s boys and girls team both trail the Hahnville squads in district. The Patriots are in second at 4-3 and the Lady Patriots are in fourth at 3-5.
