LAPLACE– SCC all-around athlete Casey Robottom made it official Wednesday. He’ll be continuing his academic and athletic career just about 30 miles east of his hometown LaPlace when he signed a scholarship with the Tulane Green Wave.
Robottom, a 5’10” 175-lb. receiver who got 2,100 yards this past season, is scheduled to graduate with academic honors and scored a 26 on the ACT test. He passed on the opportunity to attend Princeton, Brown University, Louisiana-Monroe and Arkansas State.
Robottom was an All-State selection this season for his kick returns with a Comet team that made it to the Class 2A state championship game. Tulane went 2-9 last season after New Orleans flooded leaving the Green Wave essentially without a home. Tulane recruitment has added 24 players to the football squad for next season, a class of freshmen that Green Wave coach Chris Scelfo has said he is optimistic about, and impressed by the character of his newest players.
“For them to end up here after all the negative vibes sent throughout the country about New Orleans and Tulane University,” he said at a Tulane recruitment event, “it shows they are very mature in the fact that they overcame all of that to end up here.”
