ESJ gets district honors

East St. John’s Lady Wildcat volleyball recently got district honors deserving of the 13-3 squad that they are who topped their 10-5A competitors.
After rolling through the regular season and getting to the semi-finals, ESJ’s run at the championship game ended after they took on St. Joseph’s at Comeaux High School for the state tournament.
In recognition of their season, district honors were awarded to six players from the team. Named to the First Team All-District was Darielle Sanders, Diana Lainez and Ashlee Cooper, who also received District MVP. Trenise Evans was selected for the Second Team while Ashley Givens andMaira Harris got Honorable Mentions. Coach Sandi Stein was also honored, as the Metro and River Parishes Coach-of-the-year.
“It’s just awesome,” Stein said of the honors awarded to herself and her team. “It’s good to see the girls get the recognition that they deserve. As for me, I’m very greatful.”
