DHS grad honored by sportswriters

2005 Destrehan graduate Beau Jones has been named the Louisiana Sportswriters Association “Mr. Baseball.”.
Jones was presented a special trophy at the DHS vs. Barbe football game Friday, November 4. The award is sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance.
Jones was chosen for his outstanding contributions to the Fighting Wildcat baseball team: he played in four consecutive 5A state Championship tourmaments and led the the Wildcats in 2005 by winning three playoff games, one a 4-0 victory over Barbe High School in which he threw a no-hitter. Jones’ batting average was .495, held a 11-3 record, and his 0.86 ERA led the New Orleans area baseball players. He was a three-time All-State selection and holds numerous Destrehan High School baseball records.
Jones is currently playing in the Atlanta Braves Organization after being selected in the 1st round of the 2005 baseball major league draft. He just completed this season playing in Orlando, where he was selected “Pitcher of the Year,” and was honored at Turner Field in Atlanta, GA in September.
