River Region Chamber favors St. John millages

LAPLACE — The Board of Directors of the River Region Chamber of Commerce has taken a position in favor of three of the four proposed millage renewals and has taken a neutral position on the fourth, all of which are to appear on the ballot this Saturday, Nov, 12, 2005.
The Chamber’s Public Policy Committee hosted a presentation by Parish President Nickie Monica on the renewals and at a subsequent meeting, recommended these actions to the Board of Directors after also polling its St. John Parish members.
Items on which a position “in favor” was taken:
- Proposition 1 – 1.01 Mills – Fund Operations of the Parish Jail, Courthouse and Office Buildings
- Proposition 2 – 4.86 Mills – Funds Street lights and lighting projects
- Proposition 3 – .97 Mills – Funds Operation of Parish Health Units
Renewal on which a “neutral” position was taken since additional information requested and necessary to make a complete and proper analysis has not been received as of this date:
- Proposition 4 – 10 Mills – Funds Operations of Parish Libraries.
The Chamber encourages everyone to take the opportunity to exercise the right to vote on Nov. 12, 2005.
