PINE, La. – Big plays on offense, defense and special teams led the way as St. Charles Catholic improved to 3-0 with a 49-6 Monday night road win over Pine.
The Comets demolished the Raiders despite gaining only six first downs and 170 yards of total offense. Senior receiver Casey Robottom led the way with four touchdowns on catches and kick returns.
“It was more a field position game,” said St. Charles head coach Frank Monica. “We had two interceptions that set up touchdowns. All our scoring drives were short, short drives.”
Chase Fletcher and Phillip Sutton put the Comets on the board early with touchdowns on one and two-yard runs in the first quarter. Early in the second Sutton threw the first of two scores to Robottom, a six-yarder.
Pine came back with a big play of their own as tailback Tomad Magee broke a 66-yard run, but Robottom put it right back on the home team by breaking a 92-yard return for six on the ensuing kickoff.
Robottom finished with 227 all-purpose yards, and capped the first half with his third score, a 17-yard pass from Sutton.
Sutton completed five of six passes for 78 yards, with Robottom catching three balls for 37.
The senior wideout wasn’t done though, as he sprinted 98 yards for his final score on the second half’s opening kick. Chris Jones added St. Charles’ final touchdown on a six-yard run.
The Comets will take on West St. John at home this Friday.
