Local squad wins state title

The River Parishes Diamond Dawgs 10 Year Old AAA USSSA Travel Baseball Team finished their second season together by winning the State Championship in Lake Charles on June 26. The Diamond Dawgs tied the Southern Crush in their first game 3-3, beat the Mandeville Muckdogs’s 9-5, beat the Southern Crush 3-2, and beat the Lafayette Drillers 10-1 to win the championship. The teams overall record for this season is 52 wins and 14 losses. The Diamond Dawgs are ranked 2nd in the nation out of 976 teams in their class on the USSSA points ranking system and 1st in the state out of 17 teams. The team has players from Destrehan, St. Rose, LaPlace and Harahan.
