LAPLACE-You have got to hit the ball to win games.

Saturday Cretin Homes did it and Monday night they did not.

The St. Charles Catholic-based team ran their record to 10-3 and 8-3 in district after a 1-1 performance. The Comets handed Shaw-based TimeSaver their first loss of the season, 7-6, but were defeated by Rummel based National Restoration, 7-1.

Hoping to win both games, Comets Head Coach Paul Waguespack was not disappointed with the split.

“We have got to be happy to go 1-1,” Waguespack said. “Both of these squads were undefeated in district.”

Waguespack said the difference in the win on Saturday was that his team was able to hit the ball as opposed to the game against National Restoration.

“We were able to put the ball in play,” Waguespack said. “We got some timely hits and they (TimeSaver) helped us out with some timely errors. Mix that in with a great performance out of Matt Heltz and Michael Oncale on the mound and we were able to win.

“Against Rummel we struck out 14 times. They only had to make seven outs in the field. You cannot do that if you expect to be competitive against a team like that.”
