EDGARD – The St. John the Baptist Parish Council meeting will be held Tuesday in Edgard to discuss new issues and finalizing the old ones.
Jeff Clement will bring a renewal of millage to the council’s attention.
“I am not looking for action on this,” said Clement. “It is just a reminder that it will need to be renewed soon.”
Clement said he wasn’t sure at this point if the millage rates would go up for courthouse, jail and office building maintenance and road lighting.
The current millage rate for the maintenance is 1.03 mills and 4.94 mills for road lighting, according to Clement.
Other issues include Reserve Telephone Company (RTC) expanding it’s services to the Cambridge Subdivision.
Steve Lee said RTC will run a fiber optic line on St. Andrews Blvd. In order to make the internet available and offering more coverage in the area.
Also to be discussed are issues concerning alleviation of sewer problems in Mt. Airy and Garyville, the Woodland Sewer Treatment Plant and possible money set aside for the new animal shelter, to be constructed on Airline Highway, in the amount of $42,000.
