EDGARD – The St. John the Baptist Parish Courthouse in Edgard will hold its annual Law Day on May 6 hosted by the judicial offices of the 40th Judicial District Court.
This year’s theme is “Celebrating Freedom” and will be held at the courthouse. The event is open to the community and will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will be targeted towards six to 12th graders and will feature a courthouse tour with history, middle school banner collage judging, lunch, high school mock legislative session, legal jeopardy and awards.
Law Day was established by President Dwight D. Eisenhower to strengthen America’s great heritage of liberty, justice and equality under the law. In 1961, Congress designated May 1 as the official day for celebrating Law Day in the United States, according to information provided by the 40th Judicial District Court.
