EDGARD-An 11-10 season and a trip to the Class B State Playoffs earned the West St. John Lady Rams some recognition recently.
After making it to the playoffs and falling in the first round, a pair of Lady Rams were announced as all-district members in women’s basketball for West St. John.
All-everything guard Jada Fiffie. who averaged 19.9 points a game and guard Kelly Young were the two lone members on the all 10-2A squad for West St. John.
The duo helped the Rams finish the season in the playoffs and an overall record of 11-10 for the 2004-05 campaign.
West St. John Head Coach Lester Smith said he was happy to see his two best players get the individual recognition that they deserved.
“Jada had a phenomenal season,” Smith said. “She led the team in scoring, she led the team in steals. She just did it all for us.”
Smith said Fiffie’s sidekick and the second weapon for the Lady Rams was Young who also had a phenomenal season.
“Kelly also had a great season,” Smith said. “She was our second leading scorer on the team and really provided us with another offensive threat besides Jada. She averaged about 10 points a game.
“Having her become an offensive threat was key for us because that meant that most of the time opposing teams could not just key on Jada. She was our point guard and her ball-handling was really valuable to us when we had to break pressure defenses. So her offense was not the only thing that helped us this season. She was a valuable member of this team and helped with our success.”
