BAZILE
LAPLACE – Beatrice “Sister” “Momo” Stirgus Bazile, 75, a native of Woodville, Miss., and resident of LaPlace, died Feb. 20. She was the stepmother of Alana and Lela Stirgus.
She was also the sister of Rosalie Sterling.
Services are today at 11 a.m., at Providence Baptist Church, LaPlace, with interment at Providence Resthaven Cemetery, LaPlace. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.
CHAMPAGNE
MARRERO – Wilton J. Champagne, 76, a native and resident of Ama, died Feb. 22. He was the husband of Lorraine Webre Champagne and father of Bonnie Duvernay, Tammy Cunningham and Eric Champagne..
He was also the son of the late Fernand and Ermonce Troxler Champagne, and brother of the late Maude Keller, Effie Keller, Hazel Gourgues, Agnes, Claude, Edgar, Leopold, Raymond, Roy, Julius, Ferdinand and Doris Champagne.
He is also survived by eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services were Feb. 25 in the chapel of Mothe Funeral Home, Marrero, with interment at Holy Rosary Mausoleum, Taft.
DAUZAT
LAPLACE – Cilton J. Dauzat Jr., 68, a native of New Orleans and resident of LaPlace for 26 years, died Feb. 19. He was the father of Cindy, Dean and Cilton “Bubba” Dauzat III, and stepfather of Tara Cain.
He was also the brother of Paul Dauzat.
He is also survived by two grandchildren.
Services were private, with interment at St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
LOUPER
EDGARD – Alexis “Mie” Louper, 92, a native and resident of Edgard, died Feb. 19. He was the husband of the late Beatrice Louper, and father of Marion Pierre, Vivian Miller, Lona Shaw, Ann Johnson, George and Daniel Louper, and the late Rita Fobb, Della and Keith Louper.
He was also the son of the late Alfred and Mary Louper, and brother of Melvin Louper, and the late Georgiana Jarrow, Naomi Barre, Noralie Bailey, Viola Burke, Alfred and Ernest Louper.
He is also survived by 26 grandchildren, 69 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Services are today at 11 a.m., at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgard, with interment at the church cemetery. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.
MILES
LIONS – Elton “Chicken” Miles, a native of Garyville and resident of Fenton for 13 years, died Feb. 20. He was the husband of Yvonne Deville and father of Christine Deville, and the late Crystal Deville, stepfather of Tasha, Jacqueline, Gwendolyn and Dexter Deville.
He was also the son of the latge Robert Gardner and Lillian Miles, and brother of Mary Jones, Lillian and Hilda Miles, herman, Geroge and Whitney Miles, Eric and Mark Wayne and Leonard Miles.
He is also survived by two grandchildren.
Services are today at 11 a.m., at Zion Travelers Baptist Church, Lions, with interment at the church cemetery. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.
MONGRUE
LULING – Roy Achille Mongrue, 86, a native and resident of Luling, died Feb. 22. He was the husband of Cecile Brou Mongrue and father of Marie-Helene “Mitzi” Penick, Emma Green, Marguerite Emerson, Roy Jr., and James Mongrue.
He was also the son of the late Achille and Emma Kinler Mongrue, and brother of Carl Mongrue, and the late Maud Hymel, Milda Keller, Tessie Legeune and Lethien “Lee” Mongrue.
He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a former board member of St. Charles Parish Hospital, former Justice of the Peace, former Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus 2409, former vice-president of Bank of St. Charles where employed 35 years and member of American Legion.
Services are today at 11 a.m., at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Luling, with interment at St. Charles Cemetery, Luling. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.
OUBRE
EDGARD – Paul Oubre Sr., 77, a native of Vacherie and resident of Edgard for 15 years, died Feb. 21. He was the father of Paul Oubre Jr., and the late Marie Lemieux.
He was also the son of the late Andrew and Nellie F. Oubre, and brother of Elmire Duronslet, Irene LeGaux, Agnelia Becnel, Marguerita Davis and Henry Oubre, and the late Gertia Gautier, Archangel Goins, Arthur, Andrew and Sammy Oubre.
He is also survived by five grandchildren.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired operator for Celotex.
Services were Feb. 25 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgard, with interment at the church cemetery.
PETIT
HAHNVILLE – Betty Foret Petit, 75, a native of Luling and resident of Hahnville, died Feb. 23. She was the wife of the late Leander J. Petit, and mother of Stacie Falgout and Kevin Petit.
She was also the daughter of the late Merrill and Noutsy Bourgeois Foret, and sister of the late Dorothy Danos and Barbarat Foret.
She is also survived by two grandchildren.
She was a retired para-educator in the St. Charles Parish school system.
Services were Feb. 25 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Hahnville, with interment at St. Charles Cemetery, Luling.
SELDERS
LAPLACE – Wilbert Selders Sr., 81, a native of Clinton and resident of Reserve, died Feb. 15. He was the father of Barolyn Scott, Iris Brown, Clara Lewis, Mable and Carl Selders, Patrick and Eldon LaBranch.
He was also the brother of Catherine Lewis, Pearl Ursin, Lubertha, Isaiah, Jessie, Frank and Willie Selders.
He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was a retired concrete finisher.
Services were Feb. 19 at Rising Star Baptist Church, LaPlace, with interment at Bethlehem Cemetery, LaPlace.
SIMMONS
DES ALLEMANDS – Wallace P. Simmons, 50, a native and resident of Des Allemands, died Feb. 21. He was the husband of Ernestine P. Johnson.
He was also the son of Wallace Simmons Sr., and the late Pearl Williams Simmons.
Services are today at 11 a.m., at Antioch Baptist Church, Des Allemands, with interment at Shell Mound Cemetery, Des Allemands. Visitation starts at 10 a.m.
SMITH
KENNER – Mathew Smith Jr., 48, a native of New Orleans and resident of Kenner, died Feb. 17. He was the son of Alberta VanCourt Jones, brother of Sandra Honore, Cathy Manson, Eleanor Van Court, Lesia Smith and Mary Jones, and stepsiste of Doreen Jones, Beverly Young, Adrian Meyers, Edeen and Sabrina Wilson.
Services were Feb. 25 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Kenner, with interment at St. Michael Cemetery, Convent.
STEIN
LAPLACE – Carmen Montegut Stein, 89, a native and resident of LaPlace, died Feb. 23. She was the wife of the late Vince Stein.
She was also the daughter of the late James and Denise LeBrun Montegut, and sister of the late Claire Madere, Olga Rodrigue, Jeanne, Harold, Marcel, Sidney and James Montegut Jr.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were Feb. 25 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, LaPlace, with interment at St. Peter Cemetery, Reserve.
STERLING
GARYVILLE – Lillian “Mama Lil” Noel Sterling, a native of Baton Rouge and resident of Garyville for many years, died Feb. 19. She was the wife of 60 years of Alfred Sterling Sr., and mother of Donald Noel Sr., Clara Radcliff, Peggy Bradford, Elizabeth Johnson, Deborah Martin, Jo Ann Levi, Alfred Jr., and Harold Sterling Sr.
She was also the sister of Gladys Wheeler.
She is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, one son, one sister and two brothers.
Services were Feb. 24 at Greater New Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Garyville, with interment at St. John Memorial Gardens, LaPlace.
