You want to be playing your best basketball at the end of the season.
East St. John head coach Troy Giordano believes his Lady Wildcats may be doing exactly that.
East St. John picked up another big win on Friday when they defeated Thibodeaux, 42-30, on the road.
Gaynelle Brown had an outstanding game for the Lady Wildcats scoring 16 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Randi Donald also had a solid performance with 10 points.
Picking up a victory Sunday in the Hall of Fame Classic against West Feliciana as well, East St. John is 22-14 on the season and 9-3 in district 6-5A.
The Lady Wildcats wasted no time in jumping out early on the Lady Tigers. ESJ outscored Thibodeaux 14-5 in the first quarter.
Giordano was very happy with his team’s performance and believes they are playing their best basketball of the season.
“I feel if we win at least one of our games this week we will be in the playoffs,” Giordano said. “It is always great to grab a victory on the road and we were able to do that at a tough place to play like Thibodeaux.
“We came out early and just played great half-court defense. We really controlled the boards. They (Thibodeaux) didn’t get an offensive rebound until the third quarter. So for the first half, they were one shot and done. We really controlled the boards.
With the playoffs approaching, Giordano hopes his team is peaking.
“We are playing our best basketball right now and this might be the best time to do it,” Giordano said. “You want to try and get on a roll towards the end of the season. This is the time of year you want to peak.”
