A game like this is one you want to forget about.
Quickly.
Falling to below .500 on the season, St. Charles Catholic girls basketball team fell to St. James 74-55 in district action on Tuesday.
Rynique Perkins led the Lady Comets with 22 points and Mary Perkins added 17.
St. Charles Catholic head coach Erin Remondet said her team had their chances against St. James.
“It’s definitely not a game you want to remember,” Remondet said. “Believe it or not it was close for three quarters. We cut their lead to three at one point. They out-rebounded us and we had too many turnovers.
“We allowed them to shoot too many high-percentage shots from right underneath the goal. We just gave them too many second change opportunities and you can’t do that if you want to be successful.”
The Comets concluded their week with a trip out of district play when they took on the John Curtis Patriots.
Remondet said going up against a team like Curtis allowed her team to work on some specific things that they have struggled with in district play.
“It’s a good opportunity to go up against a team like Curtis,” Remondet said. “We lost to them last year by only eight. They play tight man-to-man defense and that is our biggest problem right now. St. James beat us because of it.
“Playing a game out of district kind of helps us to relax a little bit because the pressure was not on as far as district play.”
St. Charles Catholic will return to 10-AAA action next week with a pair of games. The Lady Comets travel to Donaldsonville on Tuesday night and then welcome E.D White on Friday. Both games start at 6:00 pm with a junior varsity game. Varsity follows immediately after.
