Chalmette kept Bulldogs on the hunt
LUTCHER – The Lutcher Bulldogs continued their winning ways, with a 20-13 victory Friday night over the visiting Chalmette challengers.
In the first quarter, Dustin Mitchell connected with Osmond Brown on a 24-yard pass play for the touchdown, but the PAT kick was blocked, leaving the Bulldogs clinging to a 6-0 lead with 4:10 on the clock.
Then, with 34 seconds left in the first quarter, R. Sinopoli ran for 41 yards to score for Chalmette. The PAT by J. Pereira was good, and Chalmette led 7-6.
Late in the second quarter, it was Mitchell to Brown again for the touchdown, this a 6-yard pass. A two-point conversion try failed, but it left Lutcher leading 12-7 witj 1:34 left in the half.
In the third, Seth Edwards nit M. Mosley on a 2-yard pass to put Chalmette into a 13-12 lead, after their two-point conversion failed.
However, it was in the fourth quarter, with 1:26 left in the game, when Jeffrey Johnson dashed in for the touchdown on a n 11-yard run. The two-point conversion was good th is time, a run by Mitchell, to give the Bulldogs a welcome 20-13 win.
Mitchell was seven of 15 on his passing, for a total of 95 yards and two touchdowns. He tossed one interception and contributed a two-point conversion as well.
Next Friday, Lutcher takes on St. Charles Catholic High School in LaPlace in the next round of the Class 3A state foodball playoffs.
