MT. HERMOND — Trenell Smith must like pressure.
Knowing that a college scout was in the stands here on Friday night watching her play, the Reserve Christian senior standout turned in a sizzling night on the court against Mt. Hermon, leading the Lady Eagles to an 84-53 victory.
Smith poured in 47 points in the game, hitting eight three-point shots as she wowed the fans, and the scouts on hand.
“The scout came up to me after the game and said he had never seen a girl shoot the ball so well,” coach Kevin Branch said. “She really had a great night of shooting the ball.”
The performance by Smith led a balanced showing from the club, as Trenese Smith scored 18, and Jayna Morris added 16.
“We played well as a team, and even though I still want to see some improvement from our inside game, I think the girls are blending together around Trenell,” Branch added.
Reserve Christian jumped in front from the outset and never backed off.
They led 23-7 in the first quarter, then outscored the Yellow Jackets 20-16 in the second period and 20-14 in the third.
The Eagles are now 4-1 overall on the year, and 2-0 in district, heading into their next game Thursday night hosting Landry at RCA.
