MT. HERMON – The Reserve Christian Eagles got their toughest test of the young basketball season here on Friday night.

But it still wasn’t enough to dent the unbeaten 6-0 season mark.

Taking on the team picked to finish second in their district, RCA still ran away to a 119-84 victory.

“Sometimes you just have to outscore people when your defense isn’t good on a given night,” Reserve head coach Tim Byrd said. “And this night was one of them. But if we have to do that, we’re very capable.”

Even though Demond “Tweetie” Carter led the team with another big performance, scoring 51 points, it was the night for sophomore Kevin Branch to take the spotlight.

Branch had a big night with 36 points, but also had a great all around game as he added four buckets from behind the arc, 10 rebounds, seven assists and had two steals.

“Kevin really played an exceptional game,” Byrd stated. “He’s currently ranked the 18th best player in his class in the country and clearly he is going to be an outstanding player for us.”

Reserve Christian got out to a 27-12 first quarter lead, but then was matched point for point in the second period, giving them a 55-39 halftime lead. The team opened the game up by 11 more in the third quarter.

“I really wasn’t pleased with our defense,” Byrd said. “We just never seemed to be able to put them away. But we knew they had a good team, and we had a lot of fouls called on us. We had three guys foul out, and three others who finished the game with four fouls.”
