EDGARD — “Dominating” can be such an overused world in the spectrum of football, can’t it?
Well, let’s just try one more time since it seems so appropriate for the way the West St. John Rams obliterated Redeemer-Seton 57-0 in last night’s district 10-2A game.
For starters, running back Patrick Johnson needed only eight carries for 218 yards rushing, as he scored four TD’s. Oh yea. He also scored a fifth touchdown on a pass reception.
Then Deron Bartholomew added another 114 yards rushing on a measly five carries for two more TD’s.
Quarterback Juan Joseph only got two chances to throw the ball thanks to the dominating—there is that word again—running game.
But he made the most of it by completing both of them for 54 yards and a long TD pass play of 43 yards.
Did we mention the……DOMINATING……defense?
How about three first downs allowed, a minus seven yards rushing and 15 yards through the air.
Tackle Talon Gautier, end Darrell Morris and linebacker Kelly Burke were some of the “best of the best” for the Ram defensive team.
The victory boosted West St. John to 4-0 in district and sets up a big showdown for the league championship next week against arch-rival Riverside. Overall the Rams are 7-2.
Jackson got his scoring parade going in the first quarter with three straight touchdowns. After a routine four yard TD skip into the endzone, he had heads turning with scoring scampers of 63 yards and 89 yards, after catching the 43 yard TD pass from Joseph.
Jackson added his fifth touchdown on a nine yard run in the second period and West St. John led 43-0 at the half.
Bartholomew scored from four yards out, also in the second period, and added a breakaway 75 yard run in the fourth quarter that electrified the crowd and put the Good Housekeeping stamp of approval on the night for the Rams.
“We weren’t worried about looking ahead, even though we knew we had Riverside up next,” assistant coach Lester Smith said. “The kids played hard, and we obviously have things clicking right now. It was a dominating performance.”
