EDGARD – It appears the only problem for the West St. John Rams is their kicking game. Other than that, the Rams played a nearly flawless game in shutting out Fisher Friday night, 42-0, at Dinvaut Stadium.
West St. John running back Patrick Jackson supplied most of the Rams offense, rushing 15 times for 220-yards and four touchdowns.
West St. John Head Coach Laury Dupont has been excited about the way his team has been playing.
“Our defense has been playing really well. Tonight was our third shutout in a row,” he said.
It did not take Jackson, a senior, long to get started. He ran 65-yards on the first play from scrimmage to give the Rams an early 6-0 lead.
Following a Fisher punt, West St. John scored their second touchdown of the game. With about nine minutes to play in the first quarter, quarterback Juan Joseph connected on a 47-yard pass to Tiarius Jenkins, giving West St. John a first down at the Fisher 18-yard line. After a nine-yard run by Josh Johnson, Initius Howard took it in from the nine to make it 12-0.
Following an 18-yard punt by the Gators, Jackson took it in again. Following a 17-yard run, Jackson took it in from the nine-yard line for his second touchdown of the first half to make it 18-0.
With 4:54 remaining until halftime, Jackson had three carries for 91 yards and two TD’s.
The Rams jumped on the Gators again at the start of the second quarter.
Joseph completed a 58-yard pass to Jenkins to give the Rams a 24-0 lead with about 11 minutes left to play until halftime.
With about one minute remaining until halftime, the Gators turned the ball over on downs when quarterback Brad Navero was sacked by Carevente Poche to give the ball back to West St. John. Another touchdown run, this one courtesy of Joseph, gave the Rams a 30-0 lead at halftime.
Jackson had a whopping 146-yards rushing at halftime.
A one-yard touchdown run by Jackson made it 36-0 Rams. Jackson had runs of 15, nine and four on the drive.
In the fourth quarter, the Rams final touchdown came when Jackson scampered 45-yards on third and long to give the Rams a 42-0 lead.
West St. John went on one time consuming drive during the game. A 12 play, 50-yard drive ended when Joseph threw an incomplete pass on fourth down.
Throughout most of the second half, the Rams second and third string team saw action.
“I was especially pleased with the way our defensive ends played tonight. Initius Howard was outstanding at linebacker. He must have had about 15 tackles,” said Dupont.
