VACHERIE – A 17-year-old Vacherie man died Wednesday in a two-vehicle crash on River Road, according to Trooper First Class Matt Trahan of Louisiana State Police Troop C.

Devin F. Louis, 17, of Vacherie, was driving a 1990 GMC pickup truck northbound on River Road, at about 6:06 p.m., when his vehicle crossed the center line in the community of St. James and struck an 18-wheeler head-on, Trahan reported.

The southbound 18-wheeler, driven by Paul V. Mayho, 39, of Vacherie, was not injured in the crash. Louis, though, was transported to East St. James Hospital and later pronounced dead. He had not been wearing a seat belt, Trahan said. Neither vehicle had any other passengers.

Alcohol use by Louis is not known, however a blood test has been ordered, and the results are pending.

Trooper First Class Johnny Adams is conducting the accident investigation.
