DESTREHAN – St. Charles Catholic running back Tyrell Fenroy exploded for 168 yards as the Comets easily defeated Destrehan 28-9 Friday night in the final game of the Ed Reed River Parishes Jamboree.

“He’s a guy (Fenroy) you gotta get on the ground,” said St. Charles Catholic Head Football Coach Frank Monica.

The Comets got out of the shoot early, scoring on their first possession.

An 18-yard pass from Jesse Martin to Jarvis Sanders on third down kept the drive alive. Two plays later, Fenroy scored his first touchdown when he ran down the left sideline to give the Comets a 7-0 lead. The drive went for six plays and 57 yards.

Following a Destrehan punt, Fenroy broke his second big run of the game, a 25-yard run to give the Comets a first and goal. Comets quarterback Jesse Martin made the score 14-0 when he took it in from one yard out with about 10 minutes to play.

The SCC defense forced a punt by the Wildcats and then got the ball back when Destrehan turned the ball over on downs.

With 4:53 left in the first half, Martin completed a pass to Casey Robottom for 11-yards to keep the Comets drive alive. However, the Comets gave the ball back to Destrehan on the next play when Fenroy fumbled and it was recovered by defensive back Jai Eugene.

The fumble recovery led to the Wildcats getting on the scoreboard. An 11-play, 42 -yard drive was capped off by a 25-yard field goal, making the score 14-3.

In the second half, Fenroy scored his third touchdown of the game. An 80-yard touchdown run gave SCC a comfortable 21-3 lead.

Destrehan finally got on the board in then second half. A 55-yard pass play from Shawn Sims to Edwin Reed set up the Wildcats first touchdown of the game. A quarterback keeper by Simms made the score 21-9. The Wildcats missed the two-point conversion.

A big run by Sanders set up another touchdown for the Comets. Sanders’ 44-yard run was followed by a one-yard touchdown run by Fenroy, making the score 28-9.

“I was proud of the effort tonight,” Monica said.

“But I think we need work on our conditioning. We got tired very easy.”

Monica also was pleased with Martin’s performance.

“He looked like he has been there before. I think the kids have confidence in him.”

St. Charles Catholic will take to the road Friday night when they travel to play Terrebonne in Houma, while Destrehan will play Riverside Academy in Reserve.

Both games start at 7p.m.
