RESERVE – When a team commits six errors in a game, they are not supposed to win. It usually translates into the opposition scoring several unearned runs. Well, the Riverside Academy baseball team did make six errors in a bi-district playoff game Thursday, but the result was different than the norm.

An early 6-1 lead was enough to hold off the Livonia Wildcats 7-6.

RA starting pitcher Jordan Remondet (9-1) picked up the victory by throwing six innings and allowing six runs, two of which were earned.

Curtis Pourciau took the loss for the Wildcats.

With the Rebels leading 7-4 in the top of the ninth, Shane Hebert smashed his second homerun of the game, a two run blast to left, to cut the lead to 7-6.

Livonia was in striking distance again with two outs in the seventh. With runners on first and second, relief pitcher Jordan Poirrier got the Rebels out of trouble when he got Logan Lott to fly out to left, ending the game and Livonia’s season.

The Rebels made two errors in the top of the seventh.

Trailing 1-0, Riverside put four runs on the board to take a 4-1 lead at the end of the second inning.

The first four Rebels batters in the second safely reached base. With the bases loaded, designated hitter Nick Falgoust hit a single that scored Remondet.

A sacrifice fly off the bat of lead-off hitter Lee Haydel scored the second run of the game. Haydel’s sacrifice fly scored Wes Hotard, making the score 2-1.

The big blow of the inning came from two Livonia errors. Poirrier then reached second base when Livonia committed two errors on one play. The errors proved costly as AJ Delaneuville and Falgoust scored.

Two more runs in the bottom of the second gave the Rebels a five run lead.

A couple of Livonia errors in the bottom of the third were responsible for two more Rebel runs. Remondet reached base on an error from shortstop Cody Margan and advanced to second on an another error from second baseman Ricky St. Romain.

Falgoust then stepped up and slammed a double that scored Remondet and Hotard.

The Wildcats began to make a comeback in the top of the fourth inning. A single by Shane Hebert and another single by Robert Otremba put runners in scoring position with no outs.

A throwing error by Riverside allowed Hebert to score the first run of the inning.

The bottom of the fourth saw the Rebels score their final run of the game. With Josh Labiche having walked and stolen second, Chris Reeves smacked a double to score Labiche.
