RESERVE – Riverside Academy starting pitcher Megan Warner pitched to only 12 batters in Wednesday’s game against West St. John. It is not because she was hurt, it’s because that was all she was allowed to pitch in a 15-0 defeat of West St. John.
The game was called in the fourth inning because of the 15-run rule.
“She (Warner) has been pitching pretty well lately,” said Riverside Head Coach Mickey Roussel. “She has been here before. Hopefully, she is hitting her stride right now,” he said.
The Lady Rebels jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead at the end of the first inning. RA pounded out eight runs on three hits in the inning. In addition, Riverside sent 14 hitters to the plate in the first.
Lisa Lambert scored twice in the first inning. She started the inning off by getting a single off of Lady Rams starter Malika Lumar. Lambert then advanced on a hit from Meggie Martin and eventually scored on a walk. A two out triple Jenna St. Amant scored Warner and Daphne Zimmer.
Another walk later in the inning forced Lambert in from third base.
Warner had little difficulty getting Lady Rams hitters out in the early innings.
She struck out five of the first six hitters she faced.
The bottom of the second saw four more runs cross the plate for Riverside.
The Lady Rebels had runners on first and second with no outs. Warner started off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a walk to St. Amant.
A single by Brittany Kelly scored Warner from second base. Another Lady Rebels single, courtesy of Meggie Martin, allowed St. Amant to score the game’s tenth run. An error by Lady Rams third baseman Sanaz Jasmin allowed Martin to touch home for another run.
West St. John committed a total of five errors in the game.
In the botom of the third, the Lady Rebels got one run in the inning to give them a 13-0 lead. A walk to Warner started off the third. A throwing error by West St. John allowed Warner to reach third. She then scored on a fielder’s choice by Brittany Kelly.
Riverside got two more runs in the fourth inning. A lead-off double from Jessica Brack led to the first run of the inning. Zimmer then doubled and advanced to third on a West St. John error. Zimmer’s double scored Brack from second. Then a double from Ocmand allowed Zimmer to score from second base.
