United Way announces race

United Way of St. Charles announced the date of Valero’s United Way

Lady Wildcats defeat Terrebonne

With Amber Eugene and Ashley Sentimore each scoring in double figures, the Destrehan Lady Wildcats picked up a 6-5A district victory over Terrebonne on Friday night. Destrehan put on a defensive clinic in the first quarter, allowing only one point to be scored. Destrehan outscored Terrebonne 29-13 at halftime.

The victory lifted Destrehan to 18-8 on the season (6-3 district).

ESJ Lady Cats run record to 29-0

The East St. John Lady Cats ran their incredible record to 29-0 with a convincing 79-46 domination of Chapelle, Friday night in Metairie. Kojo Hamilton finished with 20 in the victory and Whitney Chatman contributed with 16 points. In all, East St. John finished with four scorers in double figures. ESJ led at halftime 38-23.

The Lady Cats return to action Friday against Central Lafourche.

Tigers blown out by Thibodaux

The Hahnville Tigers were blown out by Thibodaux High School Thursday night in 6-5A action. After leading 16-6 at the end of the first quarter, Thibodaux went on to defeat the Tigers 72-49. Brandon Singleton led the Tigers in points scored with 10 points, while Chris Populis added 9 points. THS led at halftime 37-21.

Hahnville drops to 3-5 (district) on the year.

Lumar commits to Tulane

West St. John defensive back/quarterback Josh Lumar has committed to Tulane. Lumar finished with 25 tackles, 10 assisted and six interceptions. Lumar was named to the All-State team in 2003 as well as the All-Metro team. Lumar was named MVP of the Class 2A state championship game.

He was also a member of the All-L’observateur team in 2002 and 2003.

Rams drop game to Phoenix

The West St. John Rams dropped a non-district game to Phoenix on Friday night, 58-54. The Rams were led by Quinn Johnson, who finished with 14 points, Josh Lumar added 10 in the victory and Thomas Augusta chipped in with eight. West St. John, who dropped to 9-9 with the loss, led at halftime 31-22.

The victory lifted the Spartans to 8-5 overall.

West St. John batters McGehee

The Lady Rams of West St. John dominated McGehee Friday night, 64-28. Jada Fiffie finished the game with 21 points, while Terri Pierce finished with 17 points in the victory. After a sluggish first half, the Lady Rams went on to outscore McGehee 23-5 in the third quarter. The victory lifted West St. John to 7-8 overall, 3-2 in district 10-2A play.

Basketball camp seeks applicants

Applications are now being evaluated for the Ten Star All-Star Summer Basketball Camp. The camp is by invitation only and is for boys and girls ages 10-19. Players from 50 states and 11 foreign countries attended the 2003 camp. College basketball scholarships are possible for players selected to the All-American Team. Hahnville

falters against THS

Like the boys team, the Hahnville girls team also fell to Thibodaux on Friday night. Despite outscoring Thibodaux in the final period, the Lady Tigers fell to Thibodaux, 53-51. Marquita Hill finished the game for Hahnville by scoring 13 points in the victory. Also, Whitney Scott contributed with 10 points in the loss.

The loss put Hahnville below .500 (4-5) in district 6-5A play this year.

Comets fall short against Pearl River

St. Charles Catholic came up 11 points short against Pearl River, Friday night in LaPlace. Jamar Coleman led all scorers with 21 points. The Comets played it close for three of the four quarters. St. Charles Catholic Freshman Jonathan Bonura finished with 13 points and Michael Bowen added 10 points.

The victory lifted Pearl River to 13-12 overall. The Comets will travel to play Vandebilt Catholic Friday.

Panthers head to Super Bowl

Former Saint quarterback Jake Delhomme, from Breaux Bridge, led his Carolina Panthers to Super Bowl XXXVIII by defeating Philadelphia 14-3.

It was the third straight year for the Philadelphia Eagles and head coach Andy Reid to lose an NFC Championship Game.
