Perrilloux leads

ESJ to victory

Behind a season-high 36 points from Ryan Perrilloux, East St. John routed HL Bourgeois, 97-78 on Tuesday night. In addition to Perrilloux, Ricardo Porter finished with 17 points and center Corey Raymond contributed with 12 points in the victory. The victory was the fourth consecutive 6-5A win for the Wildcats. They improved their overall record to 14-11 (4-3 district).

Lady Cats run

record to 28-0

28-0. That was the overall record of the East St. John Lady Cats after they defeated HL Bourgeois, 54-45, in district 6-5A action on Tuesday night. Erin Keller led all scorers with 23 points and Kojo Hamilton finished with 12 points in the victory. The Lady Cats knocked off another previous team that was unbeaten in district play. The Lady Cats led 22-18 at halftime.

Hahnville wins hard fought district game

With Whitney Scott and Marquita Hill scoring in double figures, Hahnville defeated Terrebonne 52-45 in 6-5A action Tuesday night in Boutte. Scott led the Lady Tiger attack by scoring 18 points, while Hill contributed with 12 points in the victory. Hahnville got off to a quick start by outscoring Terrebonne 28-9 at the end of the first quarter. The win lifted HHS to 4-4 in district.

Lutcher holds on to beat AC

Trenton Marshall’s 41 points elevated the Lutcher Bulldogs to a 76-75 victory over Ascension Catholic Tuesday night in non-district action. Gerard Landry finished with 14 points in the victory, and Dustin Mitchell added 11 in the victory. Lutcher outscored Ascension Catholic 45-27 at halftime. The victory lifted the Bulldogs overall record to 11-8, while Ascension Catholic dropped to 8-12 overall.

LSU-OU game to

re-air tonight

Tonight, WGNO-TV will re-broadcast the LSU-Oklahoma game beginning at 10pm. During the final quarter of the game, nearly 75 percent of all homes in New Orleans watched the game. LSU’s victory over Oklahoma was the most watched event in the history of the station. Ratings do not include the number of people watching it at bars and restaurants.

E.D. White defeats

Lady Comets

The St. Charles Catholic Lady Comets dropped their first district game of the season Tuesday night in LaPlace. Despite Brittany Vicknair’s 20 point performance, the Comets fell to E.D. White in 10-3A action, 67-46. The turning point for the Lady Comets occurred in the second quarter. They were outscored 21-6. Mary Clement finished with nine points for the Lady Comets.

St. James drops

non-district game

The St. James Wildcats dropped a non-district game to South Terrebonne on Monday night, 72-68. Nick Narcisse led the Wildcats with 13 points, while Jason Zennon chipped in with 11 and Ron Narcisse contributed with 7. Despite being outscored 18-8 at the end of the first quarter, St. James took a 32-29 lead at halftime. However, St. James was outscored in the final two quarters.

All-Star basketball camp accepting

applications

Applications are now being evaluated for the Ten Star All-Star Summer Basketball Camp. The camp is by invitation only and is for boys and girls ages 10-19. Players from 50 states and 11 foreign countries attended the 2003 camp. College basketball scholarships are possible for players selected to the All-American Team. Lady Rams maul

Buras, 38-14

The West St. John Lady Rams dominated Buras Tuesday night in Edgard. With Jada Pierce leading the way with 10 points, the Lady Rams knocked off Buras, 38-14. The Lady Rams never allowed more than five points in any quarter. The loss dropped the Lady Wildcats to 1-11 overall (1-3 district).

The win lifted West St. John’s record to 6-8 overall.

Central Lafourche runs by Destrehan

The Central Lafourche Trojans knocked off the Destrehan Wildcats, 62-39, in a 6-5A district clash on Tuesday night. Dennis Ellsworth led the Wildcats in scoring with 12 points, while junior Trey Montgomery finished with 10 points. Larry Pounds added 10 points in the defeat. Central led Destrehan 31-18 at halftime. The victory improves Central Lafourche to 17-6 on the season.

Lady Eagles romp Port Sulpher

The Reserve Christian Lady Eagles went out and destroyed Port Sulphur Monday night, 79-37, at “The Nest”. Trenell Smith led all scorers with 24 points, while Trenese Smith finished with 20 points. Reserve Christian led at the end of the first quarter 28-12. Kristin Johanson finished with 12 points in the victory. The victory lifted RCS to 20-9 on the season.

Lady Wildcats win

by 54 points

The St. James Lady Wildcats built an early lead and never looked back as they defeated Lutcher 83-29 in district action Tuesday night at St. James.

Eighth-grader Ariel Mitchell led the way with 28 points in the victory. She scored 10 of her 28 points in the first quarter. The Lady Wildcats led 41-15 at halftime. St. James improved its record to 8-12 overall.

Colts-Patriots to battle for AFC Title

In the AFC title game, New Orleans native Peyton Manning will lead the Indianapolis Colts into New England to play against the Patriots in the AFC title game. Manning has one of the highest QB rating of anyone in the playoffs. The offense, in addition to Manning, is led by running back Edgerin James and receiver Marvin Harrisson.

Panthers-Eagles ready for NFC Championship

The battle for the right to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl will be decided tommorow in Philadelphia when the Eagles host the Panthers. It is a matchup of the Eagles offense, led by quarterback Donavan McNabb, against the Panthers defense, led by Kris Jenkins and Julius Peppers. Kickoff is set for 5:45pm on CBS. Carolina star running back Stephen Davis is questionable.

Mauck elects to head to the NFL

LSU quarterback Matt Mauck has announced that he will forgo his senior season and declare himself for the NFL draft. Mauck basically had three options: 1. Come back for his season year. 2. Go to dental school or 3. Come back for his senior season. Had Mauck come back for his senior season, he may have been in competition with redshirt QB’s JeMarcus Russell and Matt Flynn.
