SULPHUR – On paper, it appeared as though Hahnville High School would have the easiest road of any River Parishes team advancing to the semifinals. The Lady Tigers sported a respectable 26-6 record and claimed the 6-5A district crown with a 14-0 record. Meanwhile, Lafayette High School posted a respectable 9-5 district record. However, records nor stats mattered in the outcome of the game.

LHS starting pitcher Shari Sigur allowed one run on two hits, which lifted the Lady Lions to a 3-1 victory over the Lady Tigers. In addition, Sigur struck out six along the way. Hahnville starting pitcher Lynzie Brown pitched a little more than three innings while giving up three runs on two hits.

In the bottom of the fourth, with the score 0-0, Lafayette got the games first run. After Sigur grounded out, Megan Hunter walked and Julianna Briscoe singled to put runners in scoring position with one out.

Then, Lauren Breaux stepped up and delivered a double scoring Briscoe and Hunter. First baseman Ashley Wallace drove Breaux home from second with a triple to left. In the fourth, the Lady Lions scored three runs on two hits while leaving two runners stranded.

However, in the top of the seventh, the Lady Tigers did not go quietly. HHS pitcher Brittany Simoneaux started off the seventh with a base hit.

Her single was followed by a walk to Donna Weber. Then, the next hitter, Lynzie Brown, hit into a fielders choice, which allowed Hahnville to score its first run of the game.

However, all the excitement of the top of the seventh ended when Hollin Dufrene struck out to end the game and the season for the Lady Tigers.

HHS finished the season at 26-7.
