RESERVE – Faculty and students of Reserve Christian School carried heavy hearts this week.

That is because fellow students, including star volleyball and softball player Amie Englade, were injured Monday after the car in which they were riding in was struck by a freight train at an ungated crossing in Reserve.

“Amie had the worst injuries of anyone in the car,” said Reserve Christian principal Phil Brown. “Hopefully, she will be up an about very soon.”

Dunia Medina, a member of the Lady Eagles volleyball team with Englade, said her friend is an inspiration to everyone.

“She brings joy to everyone at school. She is a person that has a big heart and is always there to talk to,” Medina said.

Medina described everyday Englade’s attitude as “Christ-like.” Brown said people should take note of what Englade does off the court as well.

“She leads us during our chapel services. You can say she is a special young lady,” Brown said.

Despite the circumstances, Englade’s parents were said to be holding up well as the monitored Amie’s progress at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. She was listed in stable condition as of Friday.

“All things considered they are doing OK. It’s been peaceful for them the last 24 hours,” said family friend Geoffrey Michel.

Along with the other students, Medina is constantly praying for the health of her friend since the eighth grade.

“One of the prayers we have been praying is to have God bring Amie back the way she was before the accident,” Medina said.
