FUN camps dates announced

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is offering Families Understanding Nature, or FUN Camp. This popular camp, in its sixth year, offers parents and their children an opportunity to spend a weekend enjoying the outdoors, while learning skills and strengthening family bonds. The last two sessions of camp will be held in September at Woodworth Outdoor Education Center, south of Alexandria. Professional instructors will help campers feel more comfortable in the outdoors by teaching them about canoeing, camping, shooting sports, hiking, ecology and fishing. All participants camp out Saturday night and cook their own dinner Saturday and breakfast Sunday. Instructors will guide campers in setting up camps, building a camp fire, cooking and cleaning up. Tents and cooking gear are provided. In addition, a night hike and campfire will be conducted. Space is limited to 16 families and children must be between 10-13. There is a fee of $25 per person. The sessions are Sept. 7-9, mother/daughter; Sept. 28-30, father/son. Registration forms and information are available at www.wlf.state.la.us or by calling 318-484-2212.
