EDGARD – Dwayne Bastian took the next step in his athletic and academic career April 25 by signing a letter of intent to attend Dillard University this fall. With his mother and coach watching, he put his signature to the documents which will continue his education while allowing him to play basketball close to home. “I was very pleased to see Dwayne go to Dillard,” said coach Antoine Edwards. “He had a few other offers. Thankfully he had an opportunity to go somewhere close to home. This way, his friends and family can come see him play in New Orleans.” Bastian, who averaged 17.9 points, 12 rebounds, and was the team leader in blocked shots with 3 per game, was selected to be on this year’s All River Parish Team. He was also on the 9AA All District team. Earlier in his high school career he earned several honorable mentions in the all district team polling. The head basketball coach of Dillard also had praise for Bastian. “We feel he’ll help us out over the next four years. Getting a boy from the metro area is important to us. He’s a good boy; his parents did a good job of raising him. We have high expectations of him.” Dwayne seemed happy just to have made the decision. “I visited, and I liked the campus. I’m looking forward to four years. I’m just happy to be going off to school.”
