LUTCHER – The Lutcher Bulldogs were shut out with a hard 13-0 loss to E.D. White in the sixth inning Monday. The loss of the district game set Lutcher as second in district 16-9, 7-3, with E.D. White ranking first, 20-1, 8-1. Third place was taken from St. James High, 6-13, 4-6, by St. Charles Catholic 10-15, 5-5, in Monday’s 10-2 game. The Bulldogs trailed 5-0 by the fourth inning to E.D. White. Two runs came in the first inning, three in the second. The team had trouble hitting the mark when it came to strikes. The fifth inning brought another run, but it was the grandslam by E.D. White’s Laird Ellender in the sixth inning that brought the game to its end for the Bulldogs. In St. James “the two three- run homers in the beginning of the game sealed the deal,” said coach Marty Louquet of their 10-2 loss. St. Charles’s Chris Cancienne hit a three-run home run in the top of the first inning. That set the pace for the team as Toby Jacob stepped up to the plate in the third and replayed the hit with his own three-run homer. “They had some great pitching and it was hard to come back,” said Louquet. Its tough with a new team but the Wildcats have been pressing the competition and will be stepping up next season, he added. Over the weekend Lutcher passed St. Charles Catholic by one run in a seventh inning dash for the win. St. Charles had been leading by seven runs, the Bulldogs scoring only once in the fourth inning. Lutcher shortstop Dustin Deslatte led the rush for eight runs as he was hit by a pitch in the top of the seventh inning. Deslatte scored and three more followed before he came around to bat again, this time with the bases loaded. A left-field double sent in the winning runs to bring the game back to Lutcher’s favor. Also on Saturday St. James took Donaldsonville 16-4. Donaldsonville scored four runs, two in the first and two in the seventh. St. James stepped ahead early with five runs in the first. The Wildcats kept gaining ground with two runs in the fourth and the six and topped of the game with seven in the seventh.
